Morning all, I’ve been quiet again and this is only a quick one. I’m doing a farmers market tomorrow morning at Great Garnets farm High Easter if anyone is local you should pop down. Its a lovely market and I’d be delighted to meet any of my readers.

Brain Storming

So a few days ago I saw a video on Instructables of a origami bookmark, I thought this was great  always liked that sort of thing so I started to wonder about doing it in fabric. After doing a google search I was rather angry with myself that I’d been so neive as to think it’s not something widely thought of, boy was I stupid lol.

There’s a number of sites out there with information about fabric origami as well as people selling kits with instructions, once I’d trawled through a number of sites I decided to order myself some fabric stiffener and give it ago. I was really excited when my stiffener arrived in the post this morning got straight on it and here was my first attempt at the bookmark and a small crane. Obviously they both need work and making perfect but I think it’s a good start :)   Might look at finding a one off origami class or something.

The cranes I’m hoping I’ll get right and then I’ll be able to string them together with ribbon to make a mobile type thingy and there are a few other bookmark designs I want to try out too. I’m hoping it might be one of those things thats cheap for me to produce but will sell well, we’ll see.

And another one I’ve got for you all was an idea which was talked about with a friends Aunt and I’ve only just decided to put it into practice. This isn’t perfect, it needs measurements/cutting done properly, acetate added to the front but they’ll be a series of these frames attached to another length of fabric for hanging anywhere. What do you think???

I’m thinking about having a stall at a Farmers Market in High Easter next month, it’s only £10 for a 3ft space or £20 for 6ft space now the only thing I’m worried about is making back that money and making a profit. I realise that’s the problem with any and all craft fairs/markets and £10/£20  isn’t a lot compared to the £100 I’ve been told for another craft fair for help the heroes in June or £40 for another one in July.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions regarding craft fairs/markets I’d be very grateful! Well that’s it for tonight, I would say I’m afraid but for those reading I’m sure you’re thinking well that was boring lol. I promise I’m hoping as keep posting they’ll get better!

Just one more brief thing….the snow, little man loved it and hated me for bringing him in. Doesn’t want to go swimming lesson tomorrow just so he can play in the snow, my gorgeous little man.

Night all and peace xx

I’m Back Again!

Evening All

Sorry yet again for my absence but as I’m sure was the case for many of you with Christmas it just got so busy I didn’t seem to get 5 minutes I didn’t have the internet and had a bit of upset but I’m now back up and running and better than ever.

So what did I miss? Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Just before Christmas we took a walk, Mummy took her camera and well here’s my little man all smiley and happy and gorgeous climbing the trees! As hard as it is being a single parent, I never get over how amazing children are and how gorgeous and clever my little fella is.

Ok after that little side track an update on Stitches to Riches………I’ve now opened an online shop, although I only put stock in it this evening so there isn’t much as the moment but do go over and take a look. Don’t forget to bookmark me! http://handmadeartistsshop.com/shop/StitchestoRiches. I’ve decided now is the time to go self employed and make a go of something, being unemployed is far too depressing! I’ve still got a long way to go and lots more stock to make but it’s a start.

I know Christmas has been and gone but here are a couple little decorations I made for the occasion, I’ll have more of these in my shop for next Christmas.

A friends little girl had her fourth birthday last week and I made her a roll for her felt tip pens, although this pic isn’t a good one and doesn’t show the final piece you get the idea. I must make sure from now on I take good pictures of everything I’m doing and the finished piece too!!

I ended up sewing her initials on the outside in matching fabric to the inside panel because I decided it was too plain! Need to get a few made to go in my shop but I’m unsure at the moment whether I should include pens/crayons/pencils.

Oh one last thing before I sign off for the night I had some logo’s designed for me take a peak, these were done for me by Helen Pocock of HP Source of Design (http://www.facebook.com/pages/HP-Source-of-Design/116793045091755) along with some postcards for advertising which I love.

Anyway I suppose I better say goodnight, little man has preschool in the morning and I’m really not a morning person. I’ll be back soon I promise!!

Night all and Peace to you all xx

The bear has landed. . . . .

Well here it is my first attempt at making a Teddy bear. Its not perfect and I want to try and find better instructions and patterns but I’m chuffed with it and lil man has adopted it.

I had problems where I’d made the holes for the eyes, they just kept opening and the eyes fell out. So I decided next best option to add the fabric to stop the holes opening any more and make them stand out more as they disappeared behind the fur.

I also tried to stitch him a nose but again the stitching was hidden by the fur so made a little padded one, again didn’t go as planned but it kinda works.

At first I was against sewing off the arms and legs but soon realised it would look better that way. My next problem was sewing up the back it doesn’t look great and it seems to be rather flat on the back too.

There is room for improvement but little man likes him so he has a home.

Still on the subject of little man and totally off craft topic, he was given a big box of tomy Thomas the tank engine train track but itit has nothing to tell me how its supposed to go. I’ve been attempting to put it together this morning but failed miserably. If anyone can help with how its all supposed to go together I’d be grateful for the help.

Oh I almost forgot my neighbour and I decided to get the kiddies something to do for the half term so we spent the morning doing fabric painting on Tshirts. Great fun was had by all but they got bored after a little while and wanted us to do drawings for them so us Mummys had fun too!

That’s it for today, I really need to get the use of a computer to sort out the format of my posts so please bare with me.

Have a lovely weekend.
Peace xx

Halloween is a comin!

image

Well Halloween is just around the corner and as the sewing machine is in for a service!! I’ve resorted to hand sewing. Which although its great to get back to basics I’ve stuck to quick little projects.

Mainly the felt stuffed Halloween decs, the ghost is a kit little man done with his Auntie Ribs from Hobby Craft. The pics aren’t great I’m afraid as they’re taken on my tablet.

I’m also attempting to sew a teddy but not sure how its going to work out, I’ll hopefully have some pics to show you by the weekend.

Now I’m wondering if there are any teapot cosy lover/makers out there I need some help. I’ve made two cosys one was too big so made it smaller but it doesn’t seem to sit right! It sort of flares at the bottom.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I’d be most grateful. Id really like to be able to make some nice ones for November and maybe gift a few for crimbo prezzies. I’ve got some great material i want to use but want to perfect my design before cutting into it.

I’m sorry for the poor layout of my posts at the moment as soon as I can get use of a computer i’ll fix it I promise!!

Well I know I haven’t shown any of my past projects yet and just seem to be doing the recent ones but I will get round to them real soon and catch you up on what’s been keeping me busy.

Hope I haven’t bored you all too much this afternoon, take  care.
Peace xx

Fresh Start

image

image

Evening all,

well back at the start of August I was supposed to get upto date and knuckle down with this whole blog nonsense but yet again somehow I managed to disappear and neglect you all.

Please accept my sincere apologies and I plan to start a fresh from right now and at least one blog a week from now on!

Ok so for the past month I’ve been playing with the idea in my head about making Stitches to Riches into a self employment opportunity but at the moment I’m still playing. I can’t seem to convince myself it’s the best option.

In two weeks I start a new course Interior Design, its only a basic course through Adult Community College but think it’ll help bring things together.

In other news, I’ve got three weeks and then I’ve got a stool at my Nan’s Monday club bring and buy. So far I’ve got two peg bag/apron thingies done, thinking of doing matching kiddie size ones. And a dozen heart lavender bags ribboned and buttoned. I’ve got some other ideas just need to get my arse in gear and sort them out.

I have a number of ideas for designs but I dont know how to go about putting them into practise so for now they’re just staying in my head. Any help or suggestions are always welcome and appreciated.

I’m writing these on my tablet using the android app so I have no idea as to how they’ll look with pics ect once published.

I’m so glad it’s started to get more like autumn, there’s nothing I like better than snuggling up with my little man on the sofa or having a duvet day!

Well for now I’m going to leave you guys to decide if it’s worth hanging around after my long absence. hopefully from now on it’ll be somewhere you might want to come back to. As I’m full of cold and after a nice warm hot chocolate feel ready for bed I’m going to let my head hit the pillow.

Night all

Peace xx
